Earned Run Average (ERA) represents the number of earned runs a pitcher allows per nine innings. It is the standard measure of a pitcher's effectiveness.

What is the Designated Hitter?

The Designated Hitter (DH) is a player who bats in place of the pitcher but does not play defense. The Universal DH was adopted by the National League in 2022.

What is a Perfect Game?

A game in which a pitcher (or combination of pitchers) pitches a victory that lasts a minimum of nine innings and no opposing player reaches base.

What is WAR?

Wins Above Replacement (WAR) attempts to summarize a player's total contributions to their team in one statistic, comparing them to a replacement-level player.

What is the Triple Crown?

For hitters, it means leading the league in Batting Average, Home Runs, and RBIs. For pitchers: Wins, Strikeouts, and ERA. It is extremely rare.

Mercy Rule in WBC?

In international play (like the WBC), a game can end early if one team is leading by 10+ runs after 7 innings or 15+ runs after 5 innings.
